The Grand Gathering

At 8:30, everyone began arriving in Abeey’s main living room, which had been fully arranged and decorated. It was a very large lounge with almost five sets of chairs inside. On the right side was a small step leading to a huge dining table that could accommodate over 30 people. The table was adorned with various foods, the aroma filling the room, and the cool ambiance brought joy to everyone present.

Ummey arrived first, followed by Samreen, then Dada, Mahma, and Sha’aban—all elegantly dressed. After them came Uncle Musaddiq and Uncle Saleem with their families. Today, even the bride and Firdausi were present. Abeey declared that this dinner was for the entire family, and everyone was expected to attend. Soon after, Small Mom entered the lounge, accompanied by Zoya and her young fiancé, a handsome boy around 22–23 years old. As Zahra entered, Sha’aban’s gaze followed her every move. At first, she didn’t notice, but soon realized he was staring. Feeling mischievous, Zahra subtly smirked at him, and he returned a barely noticeable smile. She muttered to herself, teasing him in her mind about his intense stare. Sha’aban, trying to maintain composure, even took out his phone to discreetly snap a picture of her expression without anyone noticing.

After everyone had arrived, Uncle Saleem and Uncle Musaddiq entered, followed by Abeey and Zahra’s father. Despite their formal attire, Uncle Saleem seemed uneasy, while Aunty Ba, in her elegant outfit, brought a sense of grandeur to the room. The lounge gradually filled with all family members, except for Tahee and Mimi, who were absent since morning. Abeey instructed everyone to move toward the dining area, while Sha’aban continued watching Zahra, noting every expression and movement as she prepared to sit.

Dining Tensions

Small Mom served everyone in the lounge. Zahra, trying to hide her reaction, would occasionally pout or attempt to stand, only to be subtly gestured to remain seated by Sha’aban. Khaled, sitting at a distance, also observed Ilham, making her self-conscious. The atmosphere remained quiet except for the sounds of cutlery against plates. Abeey and Ummey smiled gently at the interactions between Sha’aban and Zahra.

After finishing the meal, the family returned to the lounge for conversation. Zoya stood and addressed Abeey playfully about showing a film, prompting laughter from both Abeey and Dady. As Zoya moved to start the film, she asked a young man to escort her, drawing attention from Small Mom and Abeey. Dady commented on how impressed he was by the young man accompanying her, joking about whether she would leave him for anyone else.

At that moment, Ammey entered the lounge, impeccably dressed with subtle makeup. All eyes turned toward her as she gracefully joined the gathering, locking eyes with Abeey for a brief moment, which made him uneasy. Ammey, aware of the attention, maintained her composure with a slight smile, subtly asserting her presence. Her heart raced, and she found herself momentarily unable to speak, discreetly adjusting her posture to remain graceful. As she settled, Zoya’s voice signaled the start of prayer, interrupting Ammey’s thoughts and bringing focus back to the present.
