Hamdah Littafi Na 2 Complete Hausa Novel
Hamdah Book Two Complete Hausa Novel
Hamdah Book Two continues the emotional Hausa novel with a shocking accusation that threatens Hamdah's marriage, dignity and future. In this part of the story, suspicion, betrayal, pregnancy and family conflict push Hamdah into one of the most painful moments of her life.
A Shocking Accusation Against Hamdah
He stared at Na'ima with an intense look while his mind seemed to spin uncontrollably. His heart was pounding so hard that it felt as though it would burst out of his chest.
He pushed the sound system in front of him aside, drew a deep breath and asked angrily, “What exactly are you trying to say? What do you mean?”
Na'ima twisted her mouth before replying.
“I mean that I found them together on the bed, wrapped around each other and committing immorality.”
She paused briefly, sniffing and squeezing her eyes shut. A few tears escaped from her eyes, and she wiped them away with her finger. Then, in a voice that sounded close to crying, she continued.
“I swear this matter has been troubling me for a long time. I know I can be impatient, but I cannot betray a marriage. I cannot continue watching someone deceive you. I cannot watch you unknowingly accept another man's child as your own.
“Think carefully about it. How can a pregnancy of only one month belong to you when you were away throughout that period and left her without you?”
“Enough!” he shouted.
He stood up, feeling his head spinning, and walked toward his bedroom.
Na'ima watched him until he entered and slammed the door shut.
Then a smile slowly appeared on her face. She stood up and returned to her own section of the house, feeling deeply satisfied.
Hamdah Wakes Up in Fear
My chest suddenly gave a violent thump while I was asleep. I had returned to bed after the Fajr prayer.
I woke up in shock and sat upright, pressing my hand against my chest as my heart continued beating heavily.
My body was trembling as I climbed down from the bed and hurried out of the room. I passed through the large sitting room and rushed toward his side of the house.
I pushed open the door to his bedroom with one hand while the other remained pressed against my chest.
He was standing inside the room with his back toward the door.
I hurried toward him and wrapped my arms around him from behind, pressing my pounding chest against his back.
“Ya SALEEM,” I called, my voice trembling.
He turned around and forcefully pulled me away from his body.
He gave me a frightening look.
His face had completely changed. He looked like the old Ya SALEEM again—the serious man whose face carried neither playfulness nor warmth.
Terrified by his expression, I began crying.
“Ya SALEEM, has somebody died again? Please tell me now. Don't wait until I get home before telling me. Just tell me. Maybe I should die too so I can finally be free from the pain inside my heart.”
He grabbed my hand tightly and dragged me toward the door.
Still crying, I said, “Ya SALEEM, please don't take me somewhere to show me another dead body. I will die.”
He said nothing and did not release my hand until we entered his sitting room.
Then he suddenly let go of me.
In an angry voice unlike anything I had ever heard from him before, even before I came into his house, he asked, “Who is the father?!”
I followed the direction of his pointing finger and looked down. Then I raised my head again and stared at his completely joyless face in confusion.
He shouted even louder.
“I said, who is the father?!”
I jumped in fear at the force of his voice.
He pressed his finger hard against my stomach.
At that moment, the baby inside me moved strongly.
My body trembling, I pointed at his chest and said, “There he is.”
He slapped my hand away and tightened his face.
“Do you think I'm a fool? Tell me who he is. Who is the man who dared to share the same place with me?”
I burst into louder tears.
“You are the father. I don't know any other man, Ya SALEEM. Please stop playing this kind of game with me. You are the father. You are! You are!”
I screamed the words.
He fixed his eyes on mine and said, “Am I your playmate that you think I would joke about something like this? When I ask you who the father is, you say I'm playing with you because you don't know who the father is, or...”
I squeezed my eyes shut before he could finish.
“I don't know! I don't know! I don't know! I don't know anyone. I only know you. You are the father.”
I shouted through heavy sobs, completely unable to understand where the accusation was coming from.
Na'ima Makes Her Allegation
Then I heard another voice.
“The father is that boy who used to come here wearing their school uniform. He would come, do whatever he came to do, and leave. A thief may succeed for a thousand days, but one day belongs to the owner.”
My crying stopped instantly.
I slowly turned toward the direction of the voice.
It was Na'ima.
She walked confidently into the sitting room and continued speaking.
“That's how life is. You can continue doing whatever you want for a long time, but one day your secret will be exposed. Didn't you ever think that day would come?”
I stared at her in complete disbelief while my mind struggled to process what I was hearing.
I held my head tightly as a sharp pain began pounding through it.
Na'ima continued.
“Even as a married woman, you continued bringing men into your husband's house. What kind of life is that?”
By now, I understood exactly where the accusation was going.
I quickly turned toward her and began shaking my head.
“Aunty Na'ima, fear Allah. What are you trying to accuse me of?”
She placed her hands on her waist.
“Honestly, young lady, if I don't fear Allah, should I be afraid of you? What you've been doing has finally been exposed today. I will never stand by and watch an illegitimate child be born into this family and be presented as one of us.
“I already knew you would deny it because you never expected a day like this, when your secret would finally come out.”
She turned toward Ya SALEEM, who had collapsed onto a chair with both hands holding his head.
She said, “My SALEEM, I have three clear witnesses. Every one of them has seen what has been happening in this house. In fact, they knew before I did. Even if this matter reaches the Supreme Court, I will take them there.”
She straightened herself, faced the door and called loudly.
“Baba Mai Gadi! Sani the driver! Habu the cleaner!”
The Witnesses Enter
I quickly turned when the door opened with a greeting.
Baba Mai Gadi entered first, followed by Habu and Sani.
They walked into the sitting room with their heads lowered.
They sat down on the floor slightly to one side.
Baba Mai Gadi bowed his head and said, “We are here, Hajiya.”
Na'ima stepped backward and sat on the chair behind her.
She looked at them and then turned toward Ya SALEEM.
He was still holding his head in both hands, and his eyes had become red.
Na'ima said, “These are my witnesses. Every one of them knew what was happening before I did. They're all here now, so you can hear everything directly from them. On the day of bathing, the navel cannot remain hidden.”
Ya SALEEM looked from one man to another.
Until that moment, he had said almost nothing because his mind seemed overwhelmed by everything he was hearing.
Finally, in a dark and troubled mood, he asked, “Who comes into this house whenever I'm away?”
Seeing that Ya SALEEM was waiting for an answer, Baba Mai Gadi adjusted his sitting position and lowered his head even further.
He began to speak.
“May Allah calm your heart, sir. One evening while you were away, I was sitting near the gate when somebody knocked.
“I stood up and opened the small entrance to see who it was. I saw a young man standing there wearing a school uniform.
“I asked who he had come to see. He told me he was one of HAMDAH's schoolmates and had come to see her.
“Because he was wearing their school uniform, I opened the gate and allowed him inside.
“I remained where I was sitting. He entered but did not come out until close to Maghrib.
“The following day he returned carrying books. He told me he had come to teach her because she had invited him.
“From that day onward, he continued coming for about a week wearing the school uniform. Later, he began coming in ordinary clothes.”
After speaking, Baba Mai Gadi lowered his head again as though he was giving the most truthful account he could.
Sani Gives His Statement
Sani sighed deeply before speaking.
“Oga, one day I was washing the car and I also saw him entering her side of the house while wearing a school uniform.
“After that, I saw him coming almost every day, especially during the period you were away.
“Another day, I was inside the parking area when I saw both of them come outside together. She was escorting him. She stopped at the entrance to her section while he continued outside.”
Habu's Disturbing Testimony
Habu adjusted his sitting position and faced Ya SALEEM properly.
With his head lowered, he began to speak.
“Oga, during your trip, when you had already spent about twenty-five days away, I was sweeping behind her room one evening.
“I had started late that day, and it was already getting dark.
“While I was sweeping near the back window of her room, I heard loud laughter. I stopped because the voice sounded like that of a man.
“At first, I ignored it and continued sweeping. I thought perhaps my ears were deceiving me because I knew you were not around.
“Then I heard the man's voice again.
“When I finished sweeping and was about to leave, I started hearing certain words from inside.
“I looked through the window and saw a man on her bed. What I saw did not look good at all.
“Then I heard Hajiya shouting religious exclamations, so I quickly went around to the front.”
Sani immediately continued the story.
“When I saw Habu rushing into her side of the house and heard Hajiya shouting, Baba Mai Gadi and I followed him.
“That was when we saw the man coming out of her room.”
Hamdah Is Left Speechless
Their words sounded like something from a dream.
I stared at each person's mouth whenever he began speaking, watching until he finished his statement.
My mind completely stopped working.
I could not describe what I was feeling.
All I knew was that if death had taken me at that moment, I would have considered it a form of mercy.
That day, I understood that crying itself could sometimes be a blessing and a relief to a troubled heart.
But my eyes were frozen and dry.
There was not a single tear left inside them.
My breathing became so weak and irregular that I almost wished it would leave my body completely and give me relief.
Then I heard Ya SALEEM's voice.
“Why did all these things happen without anyone telling me? Even you, Baba Mai Gadi. If the younger ones didn't understand the seriousness of what was happening, you are old enough to be like a father to all of us.
“How could you watch something wrong happening and not tell me so it could be stopped earlier?”
Baba Mai Gadi lowered his head further.
“May Allah calm your heart. I feared that telling you might cause a serious problem, so I kept quiet.”
Ya SALEEM pointed toward the door.
“Stand up and leave.”
They quickly stood and walked outside.
Na'ima also stood up and returned to her side of the house.
Ya SALEEM Rejects Hamdah's Pregnancy
Only then did I manage to draw another breath.
Ya SALEEM shut his eyes tightly before suddenly standing up.
He grabbed my hand in overwhelming anger and emotional pain.
I kept shaking my head.
My tongue felt unbearably heavy. I could barely move it, let alone form proper words.
With great difficulty, I drew a breath and said, “I swear, Ya SALEEM, I don't know anything about this. I don't know anything about what they're saying. I swear by Allah that everything they said is false.
“This pregnancy belongs to you. Even you know that this child is yours.”
He tightened his grip on my hand.
Then he slapped me so hard that for a moment I felt completely numb.
In a harsh voice, he said, “Don't ever deceive me with that filthy pregnancy again. I am not the father.
“Stop deceiving yourself into believing that the child you're carrying belongs to me.”
Then his voice became lower.
He fixed his eyes on my face and said, “Why would you punish my heart like this? What did I fail to give you?
“Why, whenever I was away, would you bring another man into my house, into our bedroom, and allow him into a place that should have belonged to me alone?
“Go. I have forbidden myself to you. Go, I said!”
He shouted the final words and pushed me away.
I staggered and nearly fell to the floor.
The baby moved strongly inside my stomach, forcing me to place my hand over it.
Still furious, he came toward me again, grabbed my hand and dragged me toward the door.
He opened it and pushed me outside.
Pointing at me, he said, “Leave! I don't want to see you again. I don't want to see that filthy pregnancy. I have forbidden myself to you!”
He repeated the declaration for the second time.
Then he pulled the door shut with great force.
Hamdah Leaves the House in Tears
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un,” I said aloud.
Suddenly, the tears returned.
I turned and ran toward my side of the house, crying uncontrollably.
When I entered the bedroom, I had no idea what to do.
I simply walked around the room while crying.
For almost ten minutes, I kept pacing from one side of the room to another, unable to think of anything that could ease my pain.
Finally, I walked to the wardrobe.
I removed the clothes I was wearing, took out a blouse and matching wrapper made from Ankara fabric, put them on and covered myself with a hijab.
Then I pulled out the suitcase that had been used to bring my clothes after Inna's death.
Ever since I returned, I had left the suitcase untouched.
There were about five sets of clothes inside it.
I dragged the suitcase out and left the room.
Salele Watches Hamdah Leave
As I stepped outside, I saw Salele standing quietly to one side, staring toward the door of Ya SALEEM's section.
When our eyes met, he shook his head and wiped away the tears that had fallen from his eyes.
I turned away and continued walking.
I was moving, but I barely knew where I was placing my feet.
I eventually left the compound and stopped a commercial tricycle.
When we arrived at my destination, I climbed down and told the rider to wait while I went inside to collect his fare.
But after seeing how badly I was crying, the rider told me to forget the payment.
“May Allah have mercy,” he said.
He apparently assumed that someone had died.
Hamdah Returns to Her Family
I dropped the suitcase in the family compound.
I could hear the security guard asking what was wrong, but I didn't even turn around.
I hurried inside.
I found Ummi sitting in the sitting room.
The moment she saw me, she quickly stood up.
“HAMDAH, what happened?” she asked.
I threw my arms around her and cried even louder.
Now frightened, Ummi kept asking, “What happened? What is wrong?”
I couldn't answer her.
I could only continue crying.
She shook me gently.
“HAMDAH, calm down and tell me what happened. What is it?”
Through uncontrollable sobs, I finally spoke.
“Ummi, I swear the pregnancy is his. I swear by Allah, the baby is his.”
Ummi looked confused and increasingly worried, especially because I was speaking as though I could barely breathe.
“Whose pregnancy? What happened to the pregnancy? Calm down and explain it to me.”
I held her hand tightly while struggling for breath.
“Ya SALEEM, Ummi. Ya SALEEM. I don't know anything. I don't understand what they're accusing me of. I swear, Ummi, I don't know anything.”
At that moment, Goggo Hauwa and Aunty Halima hurried out.
“What happened? What's wrong with her?” they asked.
Ummi replied, “I don't know either. She suddenly came in looking as though someone had thrown her out.”
Goggo Hauwa held me and asked, “HAMDAH, did something happen in your husband's house?”
I began nodding my head.
She looked directly at me.
“Then tell us. What happened?”
